Continuing Education
Jeannine Hanson is a STARS approved trainer. Through the Montessori Center for Teacher Education - Washington State, she provides continuing education workshops for Montessori teachers.
Two workshops are planned for the 2011-2012 school year.
"Each One Teach One"
Course Description:
"Teaching is Leadership"
As classroom teachers, one of our responsibilities is to mentor our students. Classroom Leadership is another important role.
This workshop is designed to facilitate communication among teachers and between teachers and classroom assistants. Our goal is to create a classroom handbook which can easily be individualized and copied for classroom assistants. It can cover whatever topics workshop particpants develop.
- Some ideas are:
- duties and responsibilities
- class schedule
- discipline
- overview
- handling transitions
- relationships with parents
- preparing the environment
The workshop is scheduled as follows:
October 15, 2011
Onsite Workshop: 3 hours-
Tasks:
- Decide on topics to develop
- Divide into task forces and develop topic outlines
- Each task force determines responsibilities
January 2012
Independent Study: 7 hours- Tasks:
- Online study to develop and share content among team members.
February 4, 2012
Onsite Workshop: 3 hours- Task:
- Each task force brings completed handbook topic
- Review Handbook
- Assess process
STARS credit is given upon completion of all workshop sections.

"Montessori Spring Tea"
Course Description:
This workshop provides specific curriculum related to music, zoology, botany and cultural studies. MCTE students will share their year-long study curriculum development.
